Mole Information Pictures Video
Most people only know of moles from the tunnel tracks they leave in yards as moles move about looking for food. This causes the moles as a whole to be very unpopular. Moles, however, as every other animal serve an extremely important part of the continuous balance and web of life. Moles just do their part underground. This life underground makes the life of a mole very different than most other top side land animals. Moles live most of their lives beneath the surface of the ground and rarely are seen above ground. (I saw one once and it moved very quickly as it moved like a swift waddling turtle across a street) They are especially adapted to an existence underground. Their broad front feet with outward facing palms helps them dig their way through their own personal underground tunnel. The food habits of moles have received a lot of attention, more than their own anatomy. The diet of a mole is very changeable and thus is a key to their survival. The Moles diet consists primarily of earthworms, insects, and a variety of invertebrates makes up their food. Most of the food a mole eats are all underground creatures. Moles can have a huge appetite. On Star nosed mole was observed eating 1850 earthworms, 1 frog, 3 mice and 2 large grubs over a 14 days span. Moles have also played a part in our language to define certain situations. People who are unsuspect4ed spies in corporate or government areas have been referred to as moles. Moles lives underground are a perfect metaphor for people in these situations and that why the term mole in this situation fits so perfectly..
